Silver Fish Match – Club Pool
The Whitehall angling club held a silver fish only contest at their pool at Cotheridge with Dave Warren carrying on from where he left off last season by taking first prize.
Netting 15 04 00 of roach and Rudd, Dave used maggot and pellet at 8 metres on peg 22 to win. Club newcomer Lennie Merrill claimed second spot with 14 07 00 of similar fish but with a few perch which fell to maggot fished at 8 metres. Third place went to Anthony Staite who despite wasting the final hour of the match playing a huge foul hooked carp managed to take 13 09 00 from peg 20 to beat club bailiff Graham Mitchenhall who weighed in rud and roach going 13 06 00.

THERE IS HOPE DESPITE CARP MISS – Club Contest
Despite missing the keep-net with a 5lbs carp, Whitehall club secretary Mike Hope still managed a comfortable victory in the first match of the season on the clubs pool at Rushwick.
Drawn on peg 11, Hope netted around 10lbs of silver fish along with half a dozen carp on sweet corn and maggot for a winning weight of 39 04 00.
On the adjacent peg 12, was runner up Paul (Fergie) Edwards who included a fine 15 06 00 carp in his sweet corn taken net of 27 07 00. Carl Graham took 27 05 00 from peg 17 to take third place who beat Lennie Merrill who was fourth with 22 14 00.
Section winners were A Section, Nigel Crane 13 05 00 (all silver fish), Section B Mark Johnson 20 11 00, Section C Les Thompson 21 06 00, Section D Keith Holt 22 15 00.
The next club match is on Wyatt’s Pool at Cobb House Fisheries.

Open Match – Club Pool
Overnight rain and a drop in temperature were blamed for lower than average catches during the first Whitehall evening open contest of the season.
Once again Dave Warren (Whitehall AC) was the man to beat when he netted a winning 25 -13-00 of carp on paste from peg 20. In second spot was Halfway House match man Mick Watling with a meat caught 13-09-00 from peg 12.
Third placed man Steve Williams also from the Halfway House club included four crucian carp in his meat taken 12-08-00 catch off peg 2 to beat up and coming Lee Davey (Fox AC) who’s fourth placed 11-08-00 came from peg 18.
There will be open contests for the next few Thursday evenings on the pool. Call Dave Warren on 07880558866 for details.
11th June
Open Match – Club Pool
The Thursday evening open contest on the Whitehall Pool provided a win for new member Tony Hawker who netted 19-03-00 of carp and silvers from peg12 on luncheon meat.
Once again on the leader board in second place was club secretary Mike Hope with 18-08-00 from peg 9. Seasoned veteran Len Merrill finished in third spot when he took 14-15-00 of carp and roach on the corn from peg 11 to beat Colin Hopes fourth placed silver fish catch of 12-10-00.
Club Pairs Competition – Club Pool
Tony Hawker came out on top at the club’s annual pair’s event with a weight of 57-14-00 all taken on meat from peg 7. Club star Dave Warren was second weighing 55-00-00 on paste from peg 11.
Mike Hope was third with 36-11-00, which was made up of 28lbs of silver fish. The top pair was Tony and John Hawker with 78-00-00.
The next club match is on Wyatt’s Pool at Cobb House Fisheries.

Open Match – Club Pool
Lee Davey (Fox AC) won the latest Whitehall AC Thursday evening open contest when he netted 18-03-00 of carp and roach from peg 18.
Mick Watling (Halfway House) took second with a level 18-00-00 while John Hawker was third with 13-10-00 from peg 27.
Club Contest – Wyatt’s Pool Cobb House Pool
Carl Graham had to settle for 99-12-00 when the club visited Wyatt’s pool at Cobb House Fisheries.
Len Merrill finished second thanks to an all carp net of 74-14-00. Third place went to Mark Bayliss with 70-10-00.
Section winners were A Tony Hawker, B Tony Staite, C Tom Mitchenhall
Club Contest – Broadacres Pool
The Whitehall contest at Broadacres saw Nigel Crane improve to take the winning purse with 57-06-00 of paste caught carp. Andy Sankey was runner up with 32-04-00.

Open Match – Club Pool
Last Thursday’s popular Whitehall open saw plenty of fish hooked and lost but winner Mike Hope continued his good run by netting 23-14-00 of carp and silver fish from peg 27 on corn.
Keith Holt was second when he used paste on peg 24 for a level 20-00-00, while in third was Graham Mitchenhall with 17-02-00 and taking fourth with 16-08-00 was Mick Watling (Halfway House).
The series has been extended to July 15th.
Portobello hot rods weigh in at Rushwick

RUSHWICK’S Whitehall AC pool came alive for Portobello club members with the top four anglers taking almost 250lbs between them.
Winner and seasoned small fish expert Ron Eagle took around 20lbs of silver fish on maggot and corn.
He then changed to meat in the margins where he found a shoal of hungry carp, giving the southern exile a final weight of 77lbs.
The runner-up was Alan Tibbetts, whose mainly carp net of 57lbs 10oz also came from the nearside via a meat and corn combination.
Close behind in third was 16-year-old Gary Brixton jnr, who used the caster in order to weigh 53-14.
Whitehall evening opens at Rushwick continue to be popular with club member Nigel Crane weighing in 23-7 of paste-caught carp from peg 14 to take a victory.
For the second week running, Keith Holt had to be content with the runner-up prize thanks to a corn-fed 21-15 carp net.
Third spot went to Halfway House AC man Steve Williams, who took 21-2 to the scales, with in-form Mike Hope settling for fourth prize with a weight of 19-8. The last match in the series will be next Thursday.
The club also visited the prolific Greenhills fishery at Grimley where Carl Graham set a new club record when he took a staggering 108-10 to the scales.
Fishing corn in the margins of peg 19, Graham netted carp to 5lbs from the off.
Club star Dave Warren used similar tactics on peg 23 to weigh 97-0 ahead of Graham Mitchenhall with 80-2 and Steve Hope with 73-10.
Section winners were Tony O’Neil, Crane and Steve Mitchenhall.

Open match held on the 8th July 2010 at the Club Pool
Rising star Lee Davy recorded a win during the penultimate Whitehall series of evening opens after a run of high places.
Drawn on peg 11, the Fox AC member used luncheon meat bait to take an all-carp winning weight of 34-14.
Just two ounces short and runner-up was Keith Holt on peg nine where he used pellet close in.
Third-placed Gary Watling managed 25-8 of carp and roach, all taken on corn and maggot from peg 27, to beat his father Mick, whose 20-0 came from peg five.
Persistent Len’s finally rewarded

WHITEHALL AC veteran Len Merrill won his first match of the season with a triumph at Evesham’s Manor Farm leisure complex after a run of high places.
Drawn on peg nine of the Windmill pool, seasoned campaigner Merrill used all his skill to record a narrow verdict by taking 73lbs 12oz of carp on the pellet, offered shallow at just eight metres.
Dave Warren alternated between paste and pellet on peg 17 to take an all-carp runner-up net of 71-14.
Third was the consistent Carl Graham with a sweetcorn taken 56-14 from peg six.
Section winners, A: Nigel Crane 44-15; B: Keith Holt 45-10; C: Colin Davis 44-4; D: Graham Mitchenhall 19-0.
The next club event is on the Hallow AC pool.

The final Whitehall evening open produced a second win for up-and-coming matchman Lee Davey.
Taking 42-0 to the scales, the Fox AC man used paste bait in the margins of peg 12.
Veteran John Hawker was second from peg 24 with another paste weight of 37-4, while Whitehall star Dave Warren was third, thanks to a 25-9 catch from peg four.
The club also visited Hallow pools where Nigel Crane took the verdict from unfancied peg 28 with a mainly carp net of 60-2 taken on paste at six metres.
Second placed Warren bagged 37-8 from peg 18 ahead of Graham Mitchenhall on peg 23 with a 27-2 catch.
The Whitehall will be running a silver fish series on their pool and anglers interested can call Warren on 07880-558866.

Staite rewarded for maggot bid
WHITEHALL AC matchman Anthony Staite finally took top honours after a run of section wins.
Staite’s club hosted Severn Stoke AC in the first round of an inter-club match between the two teams.
Drawn on permanent peg 11 at Cotheridge Pool, he bucked the paste fishing trend in favour of a humble maggot approach designed to catch silver fish and carp.
But he netted the bigger fish regularly, ending with an all-carp 34lbs 2oz.
Runner-up Keith Holt (Whitehall) included silvers in his paste-caught 26-1 off peg six.
Top Severn Stoke angler was Nigel Rowberry, whose mixed bag of 25-3 fell to maggot on peg eight, pushing team-mate Martin Cullwick into fourth with 19-7.
The first leg went to Whitehall 32-26 on points.
Friday 20th August 2010.
Greenhill Fishery’s Curlew Pool played host to Whitehall AC and Carl Graham showed his liking for the venue by again winning.
Graham bagged a carp weight of 81-12, falling to corn and maggot baits in the margins of peg 22.
Club star Andy Sankey was second with 74-14 from peg 29 on the worm and corn.
Steve Hope netted 68-14 also on corn at six metres for third place, beating Dave Warren’s 55-4.
Section winners, A: Steve Mitchenhall; B: Dave Warren; C: Dave Wagg; D: Graham Mitchenhall.
Members and guests fished the Ron Goldsby invitation match on the club pool where Graham Mitchenhall narrowly won with 41-8-0 from peg four, an area he knows particularly well.
Second was Goldsby weighing 37-3, ahead of Mick Watling with 30-10 and Dan Avery with 30-4.

Former canal star Colin Davis narrowly won the Bill Burton memorial contest on a rain-affected Whitehall Pool with a mixed bag of carp and silvers going 21-10 from peg 22.
With 21-0, Steve Hope’s all-carp net came off peg seven to meat and maggot bait in the margins.
Seasoned campaigner Len Merrill was third with 16-7 from peg 14 and Tony Hawker fourth with 15-0. All money raised went to the local cancer charity.

Strong winds and heavy rain made things uncomfortable for Whitehall AC members on the club pool at Cotheridge.
Seasoned campaigner Dave Yapp beat the conditions with ledgered meat on his peg 22 and, despite missing the net with a 5lbs carp, went on to record a winning 30-8.
Tony O’Neil claimed second prize with a 21-0 carp net taken on corn from peg four.
In third place was silver fish expert Anthony Staite, who took 18-12 of roach and rudd along with a solitary carp, all on maggot from peg nine to beat Mark Bayliss with 17-10 from peg 17.
The next Whitehall AC event is on Oak Pool at Ockeridge.
