Whitehall Angling Club Non Carp Matches

The interest shown in the non carp matches (beginning in November) has been very encouraging despite the club not really advertising these events.

Already a number of well known local anglers have expressed their intention to fish and have already booked a place.

Added to this a number of local clubs have also expressed an interest and are prepared to advertise these matches to their members.

Places are limited so if you want to fish members need to contact Dave Warren to book a place as soon as possible.

The runner-up was Alan Tibbetts, whose mainly carp net of 57lbs 10oz also came from the nearside via a meat and corn combination.

Close behind in third was 16-year-old Gary Brixton jnr, who used the caster in order to weigh 53-14.

Whitehall evening opens at Rushwick continue to be popular with club member Nigel Crane weighing in 23-7 of paste-caught carp from peg 14 to take a victory.

For the second week running, Keith Holt had to be content with the runner-up prize thanks to a corn-fed 21-15 carp net.

WHITEHALL AC matchman Anthony Staite finally took top honours after a run of section wins.

Staite’s club hosted Severn Stoke AC in the first round of an inter-club match between the two teams.

Drawn on permanent peg 11 at Cotheridge Pool, he bucked the paste fishing trend in favour of a humble maggot approach designed to catch silver fish and carp.

But he netted the bigger fish regularly, ending with an all-carp 34lbs 2oz.

Runner-up Keith Holt (Whitehall) included silvers in his paste-caught 26-1 off peg six.

Top Severn Stoke angler was Nigel Rowberry, whose mixed bag of 25-3 fell to maggot on peg eight, pushing team-mate Martin Cullwick into fourth with 19-7.

With 21-0, Steve Hope’s all-carp net came off peg seven to meat and maggot bait in the margins.

Seasoned campaigner Len Merrill was third with 16-7 from peg 14 and Tony Hawker fourth with 15-0. All money raised went to the local cancer charity.

Friday 3rd September 2010.

Strong winds and heavy rain made things uncomfortable for Whitehall AC members on the club pool at Cotheridge.

Seasoned campaigner Dave Yapp beat the conditions with ledgered meat on his peg 22 and, despite missing the net with a 5lbs carp, went on to record a winning 30-8.

Tony O’Neil claimed second prize with a 21-0 carp net taken on corn from peg four.

In third place was silver fish expert Anthony Staite, who took 18-12 of roach and rudd along with a solitary carp, all on maggot from peg nine to beat Mark Bayliss with 17-10 from peg 17.
