WHITEHALL AC matchman Anthony Staite finally took top honours after a run of section wins.

Staite’s club hosted Severn Stoke AC in the first round of an inter-club match between the two teams.

Drawn on permanent peg 11 at Cotheridge Pool, he bucked the paste fishing trend in favour of a humble maggot approach designed to catch silver fish and carp.

But he netted the bigger fish regularly, ending with an all-carp 34lbs 2oz.

Runner-up Keith Holt (Whitehall) included silvers in his paste-caught 26-1 off peg six.

Top Severn Stoke angler was Nigel Rowberry, whose mixed bag of 25-3 fell to maggot on peg eight, pushing team-mate Martin Cullwick into fourth with 19-7.

The first leg went to Whitehall 32-26 on points.

Friday 20th August 2010.

Greenhill Fishery’s Curlew Pool played host to Whitehall AC and Carl Graham showed his liking for the venue by again winning.

Graham bagged a carp weight of 81-12, falling to corn and maggot baits in the margins of peg 22.

Club star Andy Sankey was second with 74-14 from peg 29 on the worm and corn.

Steve Hope netted 68-14 also on corn at six metres for third place, beating Dave Warren’s 55-4.

Section winners, A: Steve Mitchenhall; B: Dave Warren; C: Dave Wagg; D: Graham Mitchenhall.

Members and guests fished the Ron Goldsby invitation match on the club pool where Graham Mitchenhall narrowly won with 41-8-0 from peg four, an area he knows particularly well.

Second was Goldsby weighing 37-3, ahead of Mick Watling with 30-10 and Dan Avery with 30-4.

Friday 27th August 2010.

Former canal star Colin Davis narrowly won the Bill Burton memorial contest on a rain-affected Whitehall Pool with a mixed bag of carp and silvers going 21-10 from peg 22.

With 21-0, Steve Hope’s all-carp net came off peg seven to meat and maggot bait in the margins.

Seasoned campaigner Len Merrill was third with 16-7 from peg 14 and Tony Hawker fourth with 15-0. All money raised went to the local cancer charity.

Friday 3rd September 2010.

Strong winds and heavy rain made things uncomfortable for Whitehall AC members on the club pool at Cotheridge.

Seasoned campaigner Dave Yapp beat the conditions with ledgered meat on his peg 22 and, despite missing the net with a 5lbs carp, went on to record a winning 30-8.

Tony O’Neil claimed second prize with a 21-0 carp net taken on corn from peg four.

In third place was silver fish expert Anthony Staite, who took 18-12 of roach and rudd along with a solitary carp, all on maggot from peg nine to beat Mark Bayliss with 17-10 from peg 17.

The next Whitehall AC event is on Oak Pool at Ockeridge.

Members of the Whitehall AC and their guests fished the Bill Burton memorial match on the clubs pool at Cotheridge.

Most of this four match was fished in heavy rain which did little to encourage the fish to bite.

The result was a close affair however with club veteran Colin Davies using his experience to net a mixed bag of 21 10 00 from peg 22.

Close behind him was Steve Hope on peg 7 with a mixed bag of carp and silver fish falling to meat fished shallow at eight metres.

In third place was Lennie Merrill who fished peg 14 to scale 16 07 00 of carp and silver fish. Completing the line up was Tony Hawker with 15 00 00 from peg 5.

A big thanks must go out to TEAM DAVE (Mr.Warren and young Mr.Yapp) for cooking up the half time refreshments. Well done guys it was appreciated by all.

All money raised from the match was donated in Bill Burton memory to the local Cancer fund.
